Cousins! A Louisiana man and aspiring doctor shoved by a group of friends who have since claimed to not know that he couldn’t swim is currently on the road to recovery after doctors listed him as being brain dead.
Less than a month ago Christopher Gilbert was placed on life support machines with little to no brain activity, reports the New York Post.
The 26-year-old is now able to talk with his family and eat again as he embarks on the road to recovery. Though he has now been taken off of life support, Christopher is still recuperating physically and is currently working through memory loss issues; says his family’s attorney Claudia Payne.
Christopher’s family has since decided to take legal action following the tragic incident with plans to file a civil suit against the restaurant upon claims that they failed to properly restrict access to the lake despite serving alcohol.
Reports read that the April 14th incident took place at Rhett’s Tails and Shells as Christopher spent a total of ten minutes underwater after being pushed off the dock. It has been stated that surveillance footage shows his friends watching idly, failing to pull him up from the lake as he submerged deeper into the lake.
Authorities have declared that Christopher might’ve died if it weren’t for a 20-year-old male customer named Dawson Foust, who jumped into the lake to save him. It has been confirmed that he had no relation to the group of friends.
Christopher’s family is also seeking the arrest of the woman who is allegedly responsible for pushing him into the lake. It has been stated that his loved ones believe that the police are letting the group of friends off without consequences because they are white and he is Black.

“Had Chris, a black male, pushed a white female into a lake, he would be arrested,” said Claudia. She adds that the family doesn’t want the woman to be outlandishly persecuted, however they are seeking justice for the senseless act.
“I’ve defended alleged criminals with less evidence that they’ve made arrests on.”
Farmerville Police have stated that there is an ongoing investigation at this time, indicating details regarding the day that Christopher was pushed into the lake.
The victim’s friends originally told his mother Yolanda George that her son had fallen and then switched their stories admitting to pushing him as they joked around. They have also claimed to not know that Christopher couldn’t swim
“Everybody knows Chris can’t swim,’ Yolanda told KSLA news. “He’s always joking about it.”
